3D-Ansichten von den eigenen Bildern, obwohl man das Objekt nur einmal mit einer normalen Kamera fotografiert hat? Zusätzliche Bildinformationen, etwa von Objekten, die außerhalb des eigenen Fotos liegen, abrufen?
Ähnlich dem Projekt Building Rome in a Day funktioniert auch Photosynth. Beide basieren auf der Technologie “Seadragon”, die es ermöglicht Bildinhalte (!) miteinander zu verlinken.
Blaise Aguera y Arcas leads a dazzling demo of Photosynth, software that could transform the way we look at digital images. Using still photos culled from the Web, Photosynth builds breathtaking dreamscapes and lets us navigate them.

The Mobile Broadcast Unit with L.A.S.E.R Tag System (LTS) is the latest Open Source, Weapon of Mass Defacement developed by the Graffiti Research Lab in the Eyebeam R&D OpenLab. NYC! This tactical tool allows any citizen, graff writer, artist or protester to use a projector, camera and laser to write, in real-time, on large-scale surfaces and structures from a distance of 100′s of meters away. Citizens can post their art, messages and propaganda on a scale previously monopolized by advertisers, governments, major media, and other cultural tyrants. The BMU + LTS is self-contained and mobile, mounted on a giant trike. This unit has its own power supply, custom armatures and a 1200 watt audio system. Like previous work by the GRL, the MBU + LTS has been created as a tool to amplify the voices of everyday citizens and people in the fringe: artists, activists, pranksters and other undesirables in opposition to the dominant global cultural forces of consumerism, control and oppression. Das Internet macht Schätze an Bildern zugänglich, die nicht nur dazu genutzt werden können seinen eigenen Urlaub zu dokumentieren, oder den Alloholgehalt vom vorletzten Freitagabend. Nein!
Einer Projektgruppe der University of Washington (Seattle, USA) ist es gelungen, mittels eines Verbundes aus 500 Computern, d.h. per Cloudcomputing, und ca. 150.000 Bildern des Dienstes Flickr innerhalb von knapp 21 Stunden Rom virtuell als 3D-Modell aufzubauen. Der Suchbegriff “Rom” bringt bei Flickr derzeit etwa 2,2 Millionen Einträge, allerdings konnten/brauchten für diese Mammutaufgabe nicht alle alle Bilder verwendet werden (viele der Bilder sind auch nachbearbeitet, retuschiert, manipuliert, irrelevant), weswegen aus diesem Pool nur ca. 150.000 Bilder verwendet wurden. Weitere Städte, die durch diese Technik virtuell erzeugt wurden sind Venedig und Dubrovnik, in Kroatien. Die kleinen Fünfecke in den Videos sind die einzelnen Kamerapositionen in einem 3D-Vektorraum, dass die Auflösung nicht soo toll ist (wenn auch faszinierend), zeigt uns mal wieder, dass Rom nicht wirklich an einem Tag gebaut wurde:
